The team here at steve mckenzie’s has partnered with the folks at Sherwin Williams to host their fantastic 2016 Colormix CEU on Monday, October 5th.
This will be our second time working with Sherwin Williams to host their Colormix workshop, the first was such a blast (see the recap here), we knew we’d continue with more of these in the future… Here’s the course description for the upcoming event in our showroom:
This course will take the participant on a visual journey with stimulating images, factual statistics and perceptive research that supports the 2016 forecast for color and design trends. This course explores the drivers influencing future color and design trends that include global, technological, historic, psychological and economic factors with specific information on four dominant color stories for Pura Vida, Mas Amor Por Favor, Nouveau Narrative and Trajectory.
Not only does this sounds super interesting, but it’s guaranteed to be extremely educational!

We’re thrilled to share that in partnership with our neighbors, Verde Home, Steve McKenzie will be launching a new rug collection, to be previewed at the upcoming “What’s New What’s Next” event at the New York Design Center!
In addition to Steve’s fine artwork, textile collections and the steve mckenzie’s showroom, he’s now taken his design prowess to the ground level, by designing a collection of fine quality, handmade area rugs for Verde Home.
Steve’s distinctive aesthetic translates beautifully from his art and textiles to what we consider “art for the floor.” Verde Home’s philosophy of style and sustainability fits seamlessly with his stylistic attitude, an attribute apparent in the beautiful designs featured in this inaugural rug collection.
In addition to previewing his new rug collection for Verde Home, Steve will also be attending “What’s New What’s Next” as a panelist for New York Spaces’ “Progressive Design Panel,” in part with Grange Furniture, taking place Thursday, September 17th at 3:45PM in suite 201 at the New York Design Center.
If you’ll be attending WNWN, we hope you’ll visit Verde Home and catch a glimpse of this new collection by Steve McKenzie, and join in on his panel discussion Thursday afternoon!

Ruth Franklin is interested in painting, or to be more specific, the process of painting. “Paint is such a lovely medium, it’s a shame to ignore the possibilities that pushing it around can create. Recognizing the possibilities is the trick,” she says.

Steve and Jill were immediately taken with Ruth’s work – and soon after, Ruth herself – the first time they laid eyes on one of her pieces, years ago. Now, the friendship has come full circle, and we’re thrilled to share, steve mckenzie’s will be hosting “Painting Out Loud,” a show featuring Ruth’s works, in store, launching Friday, September 18th!

A reception, taking place in the steve mckenzie’s showroom that evening, from 5-8pm, will be the kickoff to this fantastic show and you’re invited!

Based out of Decatur, Ruth Franklin is a contemporary British artist, whose expressive paintings and drawings are exhibited and collected internationally.

Ruth was born in Kent, England in 1964 and grew up in the picturesque and quintessentially English countryside of East Anglia. She studied at the Lowestoft College of Art before attending Brighton Art School, where she earned her BFA (Honours) in Painting. Ruth started showing & selling her work in the US a few years later.

Ruth lived briefly in Barcelona and was duly inspired, creating a striking body of work in soft pastels which were exhibited in New York to enthusiastic collectors.

Shortly thereafter, Ruth emigrated to the US and set up a home base and studio in Decatur, where she continues to live & work.
Ruth’s Decatur-based art studio
Her studio is a cave of cut out images, large art books, and photographs, piled amongst the giant coffee tins that she uses to hold her brushes and water. Sketches and drawings are push-pinned to the walls and lie on the tables – a constant reminder of possible paintings.
Starting this Saturday – for one week only – we’re joining some of our neighbors here in Atlanta’s Westside Design District for a fabulous Sidewalk Sale!!
Originally used as a towel in the ancient Hammam spa or Turkish bath, a Fouta can be used as a bath towel, beach towel, a wrap, a throw, a runner on a table, a tablecloth, a picnic blanket, a scarf and so much more.
steve mckenzie’s is excited to carry this stunning, high quality line of Fouta towels. These generously sized (38″ x 78″) fashion Fouta towels are all handwoven using 100% natural cotton. It is a wonderful luxurious, absorbent, and soft bath towel, which can be matched with their coordinating guest towels to create a beautifully cohesive and practical pairing. Being softer and thinner than terry towels, Fouta towels dry quickly which is a big plus in the bathroom.
In addition to the original Fouta towel, we’ll also be offering an array of guest towels, which make fantastic gifts! Consider them an ideal host(ess) gift, wrap around the neck of a nice wine to bring to a dinner party, or even decorate your tabletops with them and create an especially memorable tablescape.
In addition to the traditional Fouta towels, we’re thrilled to also offer a fabulous collection of throws and pillow covers, offering our customers and clients an opportunity to bring this luxurious textile into their homes in unique ways. They can even be worn as a wrap on a chilly evening!
Visit the steve mckenzie’s showroom soon to experience these fantastic textiles for yourself – it’s all in the details, and we assure you these won’t disappoint.
As a fun aside, these products are a favorite of Stacy Kunstel, the gal behind another fabulous new home decor brand available at steve mckenzie’s, Dunes and Duchess!
We’re so excited to know – how do you see these new textiles being used in your home/lifestyle?!?
